PepsiCo collaborates with Lavazza on canned iced coffee

Soft drinks and snacks company PepsiCo has collaborated with coffee giant Lavazza on a new iced coffee in a can which will be rolled out in the UK.

Lavazza Iced Cappuccino, which was first unveiled at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, hits stores this summer in a slimline can with “indisputable expertise in high-quality coffee sourcing and roasting,” according to Lavazza.

“Both companies will work together to broaden the offering with new products, as well as expand into new markets in 2020,” Lavazza said in a statement to The Grocer.

Lavazza chief marketing officer said it will “explore and offer in certain strategic markets more and more ways to enjoy coffee, in line with the international vocation of the group to grow on a global scale”.

PepsiCo West Europe Beverages’ head of marketing, Mark Kirkham, said in a statement to The Grocer that they would “innovate and bring to market new offerings based on consumer insights and preferences in the growing premium coffee space.”

The UK launch will lay the foundation for further product launches in the European market in future.

PepsiCo rival Coca-Cola plans to release Coke Coffee in 25 markets by the end of the year. Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey announced in April that it will contain less caffeine than a regular “cup of coffee but more than a can of soda.”

Coke Coffee is already available in Vietnam, Brazil and Colombia, and will be expanded to other countries worldwide.
